Rufus wins British Young Dressage Pony Championships 2010

31 Oct 2010

We are thrilled to report that Francesca and Rufus won the SPSS BD-sponsored British Young Dressage Pony Championships held at Vale View Equestrian Centre on 31 October 2010. They won the 5-year-old class and were overall champions of 4 and 5-year-olds (no 6-year-olds came forward). The class was judged by Chief Team Selector, experienced BD judge and rider Jenny Ward, and Sarah Pidgley, BD judge, sponsor and enthusiast. This was a wonderful boost to the stud, coming after a difficult breeding and trading year, and fully justifies the huge effort and commitment Francesca has put into training Rufus, who was bought as a 3-year-old project.

Rufus is a son of Renoir, sire of Rembrandt, the illustrious Dutch European Team member and European individual medallist now sold to the UK. We are very grateful for the wonderful comments we received from SPSS Committee Members and other supporters present at the competition, and were happy to have made the 2½-hour trip to Vale View, a super venue, to support the competition, which has just been reinstated thanks to the lobbying of the SPSS. It is a fantastic opportunity to benchmark both the type of pony that should be being bred in the UK, alongside the correct production of youngsters intended for dressage.
